Well, I guess it's my turn to ask for prayers! My mom (who is the most important person in my life other than my children) went to the hospital yesterday because of chest pains. After several tests yesterday and an angioplasty thingy today, they've determined that her aorta is enlarged. The latest news was that the doctor that did the angioplasty would give those results to the surgeon and he would decide if it was enlarged enough to need surgery or not.
Please everyone keep her in your prayers (if you're the praying type), and good thoughts (if you're not the praying type)....I'll take whatever I can get.

T, I'm sorry about your mom. It is scary I know, especially when you are so close to your mom. You sound like me and my mom.
You and your mom are definitely in my prayers and I hope that everything works out well.
Keep positive thoughts that everything is going to be fine.
(((Hugs))) to you Mys

You´re in my thoughts T, I hope everything will be okay and your mum doesn´t need surgery.
I just talked to my mum a few hours ago, and I´m glad she´s fine. She was in hospital two years ago after a worse car accident and I know how terrible it is, when you´re close to your mum....
she will be okay T!

Thanks everyone!
So here's the deal.... a normal aorta is 3 cm across.....surgery would be required at 5 cm because then it's in danger of rupturing. My mom's is 4.2 cm. So, here's what they're going to do...they're sending her home in about an hour or so....they've put her on some blood pressure medicine because high blood pressure is apparently the cause of her's being enlarged. Mom has high blood pressure and medicine she is supposed to take for it EVERYDAY. But, Mom only takes it when she feels bad...and after a few days when she's feeling better she quits taking it again. This stuff will not make her aorta shrink...nothing but surgery will do that....but if she takes it everyday like she's supposed to and eats a low salt diet.....it will keep it from getting any better.

4.2 cm You better make sure she takes her medicine then. My mum is the same way, why taking meds when you feel well.... And there´s no chance it will shrink without surgery?

I hope your mom feels better soon. By the way, I've phoned her just an hour ago She is the best of my life. She has always been there when I need it. She is ill too. She suffers from Alzheimer disease, not terminal for now, but she forgets basic things. Take care of your mother. I pray for her.

Tell her how much you love her and thank God that she's okay. It's VERY important. Trust me on this. T, this is excellent advice, and I will continue praying for your mom and you. I hope she takes her medicine and does as the doctor says. I know how stressful that is for you. My dad is the same way about medicine. I talked to my mom today (more than once actually). I have had so many close calls to losing my mom (3 times to be exact) that I never ever hang up the phone without saying I love you to my mom or dad and when I see them in person, I always hug them and tell them how much I love them. I couldn't bear if something happened and I have to ask myself when the last time I told them I love them was. So, I say it every time and every day. That is also why I never hang up the phone without telling the people I love and/or care about that I love them.

Do as I say not as I do....... And I talk to my mum every day. You take care too T I have two of those. From time to time I would like to kick them in the butt. They are taking their meds, but actually my dad nees a surgery, but he's scared and is delaying it for years now. Hey, show me someone who isn't scared about surgeries, but it needs to be done! I keep praying for your mom. You really should make sure she takes her meds, when it's 4.2 cm. Maybe some threating helps, I told my dad, he should start doing sports and watching what he eats, I don't wanna get a phone call from a hospital that says 'your father just had a heart attack.' (He was close to, and my grandpa died with 54 because of a heart attack). I know that sounds maybe egoistic, but knowing my dad and knwoing how much he loves me and doesn't want to scare me, he really changed things. A bit weird for me, but most of you are parents yourself, maybe you know that feeling, and maybe someday I will understand it too.

T you know your mom is in my thoughts...She's a strong woman I'm sure she'll come through this fine, just as my mom did when she had her angioplasy. T's mom is awesome! She reminds me of my own mom in a lot of ways. I still miss and worry about my mom of course, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her this next week, but having Shirley here makes me forget there's a 700 mile distance sometimes....although then again sometimes that 700 mile distance is a nice lil buffer lol

T, I'm adding your mom to my prayers too. That is good advice to talk to your parents as often as you can. Unfortunately not something I can do anymore, I lost both my parents a few years ago, dad was 79 & mam was 80. Hope you mom starts to take her medicine regularly now & stays healthy. ((((hugs))))

T, I'm so sorry, I just saw this. I"m glad that your mom doesn't need surgery at this time and that this can be controlled with meds. But now your going to have to play parent and stay on her to be proactive rather than reactive with her health. I tried and failed with my father, as he waited too long to get the help he needed... Since he passed a couple of months ago, I call my mom daily and tell her I love her and even if she annoys the hell out of me ( which she can at times). I just say to myself, I'll miss that too one day. Sending hugs and good thoughts your way sweets.

Momma's know best except when it has to go with thier own health.
My mom and I got really close after my dad passed. we had plans to grow old together and she promised if I gave her a grandchild she would give me a baby brother...it never happened.
So when your mom calls and you're really busy and don't feel like you have time to stop and talk...do it. call her everyday even if it's just to say I love you Mom. You'll possible get her wondering what you want or need...but give 10 minutes a day to tell her you love her. Cause she brought you into this life and snap she can take you out too! LOL
I miss the trips we used to do...she was my slot buddy in Vegas, My bowling partner for doubles and my best friend.
My mom was a 13 year breast cancer survivor and won that battle but she got lung cancer and it won.
So I agree with T. Call your mom right now! Okay if it's after 8pm don't she might be in bed. But call her tell her you love her.
T my thoughts and prayers are with you. The prayer line is strong with this fan base. We'll see her through!
