JUPITER, FL -- Jupiter resident and Bon Jovi band member, Tico Torres, is drumming up support for the youngest of earthquake victims.
The Tico Torres Children Foundation has teamed up with Advant Salud, a health care facility in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and Global Care Delivery, Inc., to help children in Haiti in need of health care services.
This will be an ongoing effort to mobilize doctors, nurses, and supplies both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The fundraising effort was announced Friday morning at the Jupiter Beach Resort in Jupiter.
Jupiter Beach Resort General Manager Jeff Castner says about 50 resort staff members have loved ones in Haiti.
Castner says many of them are still waiting to hear whether their family members are safe.
Advant Salud's Vice President, Michael Torbio, says their clinic in Haiti is still open and received little damage in the earthquake.
Torres is about to begin his year-long world tour with Bon Jovi.
For now, this effort is his priority and he says 100% of all donations will go directly to Haiti.
"I think what's important is now we see it. How do we help fix it and make it better and my mind's always been for kids. I think they'll change the world so if I can reach out and help children at this point, I think it's important for all of us to pull together," says Torres.
The Tico Torres Children Foundation is a not-for-profit (c) 3 charity developed to assist children in need to fight hunger, disease, homelessness, neglect, abuse, and illness.
