He definitely white knuckled it.

I think that was only the second time he had sung that song publicly. Didn't he say at the Hillary event when he introduced the song that he had not performed that song before and he was going to do it then in front of a friendly crowd at the Hillary event. Then, he said, also he was performing it "this weekend" I think he did his practice at the Hillary event.

I love the soulfulness that he has when he sings it and he did a great job white knuckles and all.
