Why do I start this thread? Me a german girl...cause they are going completely crazy here about Barack Obama on TV. Nearly every channel has specials and will show the inauguration at 5 pm our time... I have CNN running, can't miss this moment of history...and I can only echo what I heard so far on TV, I would never ever in a million years believe that I ever see an afro-american become president of the USA...I really hope he'll be able to get your country back on its feet and improve the international relations...that's what a lot of people here counting on.....so all we have to do now is change our chancellor in our fall elections, cross your fingers ladies!!

You know Kris, I never thought I'd see the day either. I certainly hope he lives up to the hype he's created for himself. I'm going to be watching right here on my computer while I'm at work. They said we could... or they may let us go home... they haven't decided quite yet.

like kris I'm also watching the ceremony in germany. It really is a moment of history I don't want to miss! In my opinion there never was such exitement in Germany about a new US president since JFK.
I really wish him all the best!

Wasn't that a great speech? I'm really glad I watched it, you could feel he really means and believes in what his saying...absolutely great.
I think it was some kind of sympathic that he was nervous during his oath!!...I would have died out there, with all those people...

He was probably even more nervous than Obama. He is our new chief justice that was just appointed under Pres. Bush and this was his first inauguration. There was a lot riding on him also. I'm sure he was just as nervous if not moreso than Obama. They said Obama hesitated because he knew the oath by heart and knew the judge had put the word faithfully in the wrong place in the oath, and my guess is Obama was probably trying to decide if he repeated exactly after the judge or said it the way the oath was supposed to be read. Then the justice caught his mistake and repeated it.

The question is would he be correctly sworn in, if he said the oath correctly after the judge said it the wrong way....and being an attorney that question probably crossed his mind...it was actually the first thing I was thinking of...LMAO

I agree that probably crossed his mind. Although IMO I don't think it would have mattered at that point because he was already officially president by the constitutional law. They were running behind time and he became president officially at noon with or without the oath. It was kind of funny though that in all this formality there was a little goof that made you chuckle.
I also really like the guy that gave the benediction also. He was cool. They interviewed him the other night and he is 90 years old and Obama called him personally to ask him to do the benediction. This guy marched with and was a close advisor to Martin Luther King, Jr., who was a close personal friend of his. So, we have definitely come full circle. So cool to be able to witness it all.

Is this event airing today? I want to check it out. What happened on Sunday? Sheena the actual inauguration with the swearing in and speech has been done already at noon EST. There are still events they are talking about on the TV right now and the parade starts at 2:30 p.m. EST. If you are outside the U.S. you can watch it on CNN. If you are in the states just turn on the TV and take your pick of channels. LOL! If you want to watch the speech or even parts of the inauguration you missed, I think you can find video on either ABC.com or CNN.com or even probably on youtube. I haven't looked myself, but that is probably a sure bet of places to find the video. I did find a copy of Obama's speech (the text) on ABC.com and I printed it off to keep. It was very inspirational, even though I did not vote for him.
