This story actually begins a couple of weeks ago. Somewhere along the line someone posted a link (on twitter or something) about the Cohen Brothers (No Country For Old Men) doing a remake of the movie True Grit, and in the story it talked about them doing an open casting call for the role of 14-year-old Mattie Ross (played by Kim Darby in the original). The article said that they were looking for an unknown girl ages 12-16...no acting experience required. They were looking for someone who spoke her mind, was fearless, ballsy....had True Grit if ya will.....I said to myself...too bad the auditions are in Atlanta, because that sounds just like Randi (my 14 year old daughter).

Then this morning I get a call from my sister-in-law saying "Terri, remember that open audition-True Grit-thingy you told me about? They're in Little Rock today! From 10 til 5:30! You've got to take Randi up there!"

So, my daughter and I got ready and went up to the Peabody/ Statehouse Convention Center and sat for several hours (even though her birthday party was scheduled for 5pm here at the house). We called everyone and told them that the party might be starting a little late....lol. After several hours it was finally Randi's turn to go back.

Guess what! They liked her....she got a call back! She has to be back up there tomorrow for a screen test!

I'm so proud and excited...and she's OVER THE MOON! Even now, she's over there on the couch reading over her lines....lol.

Ya'll keep positive thoughts for her tomorrow, please!

I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Randi's dad has some acting experience. He actually moved to LA back when she was really small to give acting a shot. He was an extra in several movies...the only one I can remember right now is Galaxy Quest...starring Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, and he attended the high school here for the performing arts....our equivalent to the "Fame" school. Anyway, so he ran lines with her for about an hour this morning before she went in for the screen test. She seemed to be doing a good job (at least to me). They didn't let us go with her to watch the actual screen test though. She thinks she did pretty well.

They told us that we'd hear from them sometime in the next 4 weeks...IF she got it. Otherwise, we won't hear from them, but they will keep her contact info in case something else comes up that they want her for.

I'll continue to keep ya'll posted.

The person at the first audition that told me about the Sam Elliot thing was wrong. I've done my own online research now and it's not Beau Bridges ...it's JEFF Bridges that got the role of Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne's role in the original)...Matt Damon as the Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell's role) and Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney (the man that killed Mattie's father)....they are already signed on....it's official. That's who Randi would be working with on set.
