My sister-in-law passed away last night. She was only fifty and she had a daughter aged 15.
My brother phoned me this mornig to tell me the bad news. They live 800 kms from here and he told me that he doesn't want me to go to the funeral service. He wanted me to stay here and tell our parents and take care of them. That's what I did, but I'm feeling really bad for not going to say her goodbye. I'd like to be with my brother and my niece. I'm her godmother, and I'm sure she needs me because we are really good friends. She knows I'm here for her.
I'm gonna miss her.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I know how hard it is to lose someone you love and not be able to be there to hold the one's you love close and share in their grief.
Not being able to say goodbye and have closure is difficult, but maybe one day you can go to her grave and say goodbye.
Take comfort in knowing you did as your brother wished and was there to support your parents through this loss.
I'm sure as close as you and your niece are that she knows that you are always there for her and would be there if you could. If nothing else, maybe you could phone your niece and ask her how she is and see if there is anything she wants to talk about. Let her know you wanted to be there in person but couldn't and that you are there for her if and when she needs to talk about her mom or anything else that she needs to talk to someone about. Just hearing you say those words will mean a lot to her and when she is ready she will come to you. Just knowing you love her and are there for her goes a long way in helping her to grieve.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks to all of you. Yes, Mistery, what you say is what I have to do. And yes, I did what my brother wanted, but it's so sad...Anyway, life goes on and I think I have now another "daughter" to care for. OMG, a teenager...I'll do my best for helping her and being there If she needs me.
really, thanks for your prayers. Your vibes make me strong.
Love you all.

One week later, I've learned to live with it. It's sad, but as I said, life goes on. I was talked to my niece Saturday night..till 2 a.m.
It was hard but relaxing in some way. I know she can manage the new situation and she knows that here I am.
Thanks to everybody again. All of you were my strength. My wish is that everybody here and their families and friends are safe and healthy and you can smile for a long time. Call it.."wish of the year" A big hug for you all, girls.
