Special Edition CDs

I preordered the Special Edition CDs from Amazon a couple weeks back (thanks for the Mother's Day/Anniversary gift, Hubby Dear ). They arrived today, and I'm happily wallowing in the live/soundcheck extras...

Bon Jovi: Runaway, Roulette, Breakout, Get Ready

7800F: In and Out of Love (with HUGE Richie solo at beginning), Only Lonely (incredibly HOT), Tokyo Road

SWW: Bad Name, Prayer, Wanted

NJ: Blood on Blood (OMG--AMAZING), BTBMB

Apparently the CDs are available at WalMart as well as Best Buy, Amazon, etc. However, be careful what you buy.... not all the CDs contain the laminates and extras. Mine had a big sticker on the front of each that specifically listed the laminates/bonus packaging, etc.

I believe these are available outside North America on 5/24... and There is a Special Edition of The Circle available only outside North America, too. Here's a link to it at Amazon UK:

The Vault isn't available yet; according to the liner notes:

"The bonus area is available only in the United States and only from 12:01 a.m. May 18, 2010 - November 11, 2011."

You also have to play the CD in your computer to access the bonus material, once it is available.

Some of the photos from the older albums are new to me, and there are a couple of REALLY drool-worthy ones. The photos from Crush - Lost Highway are all familiar, but the packaging is nicely done. DYING to see what pics are in the Vault.

All in all, well worth the money IMO.

From everything I've read/seen so far, yes you do have to have the CD in the computer to access extras linked to THAT ALBUM in the Vault. Each CD/code apparently unlocks different additional material. So if you want all the goodies associated with the Special Editions you will have to buy all 10 records.

No idea on if/how codes would work for Amazon/iTunes downloads, or if there even ARE codes for digital downloads.

I've looked around the Vault site, and to me it looks like the Vault will be accessible by anyone but there will a fee for access. I'm sure there will be some freebies to entice people in, but the really good stuff will cost you extra. We'll see what happens when this thing goes up next week.

Oh, and the Vault is only accessible by fans in the United States, at least for right now. I'm betting that won't be the case forever; I have a feeling it's a "let's see how this goes before we open the WHOLE can of worms" thing.

This was over on Dry County:

Each CD unlocked only that portion of the vault that corresponds to that CD. An additional live track from each CD was available for streaming, but I can't buy the tracks until May 18. Silent Night is the track from Fahrenheit, and Raise Your Hands is the SWW track. Validating each CD also loaded photos from that timeframe into a gallery in the vault.

So I went into the Vault today and unlocked the extras for each album. There is an extra live track and a set of photos for each....

There are almost 200 total, but about 80-90 of them are of laminates, passes, graphics, setlists, Jon's handwritten lyrics etc. There were hardly any photos of the guys in the Bounce and HAND sets (Pffft) though there was a photo of the HAND promotional CONDOMS given out at the Nokia show, LOL!

There were GREAT pics from Jon's personal collection for the first 5 albums... some funny shots of their first tour bus, some really yummy shots of the long-haired boys, and the most adorable puppy pic of David I've ever seen.

The photos load into a flash player gallery and randomly flip through, though you can manually view them in order. My biggest gripe about the flash player is that the viewing window is small (only about 2.5 by 3.5 inches) so it's practically impossible to read any of the documents, like Jon's lyrics, call sheets, etc. Even the photo captions are hard to read. I've sent an e-mail to BonJovi.com about it -- it will probably be ignored.

Once you use your CD or code to unlock an album's extras it stays on your homepage; every time you log on you will be able to access the songs/photos (and presumably more stuff as it's added, if Obie wasn't pulling our collective leg). Once your CD/code is validated to your account you can't use it again to unlock the content with another user id/password.

Overall evaluation of the Vault so far? Eh. Better than I expected, but not as good as it could be. I was pleasantly surprised with some of the tracks (the Hey God track is just LETHAL, and IBTFY made me swoon). Being the sucker for pictures I am, I loved seeing the old snapshots.

We'll see what happens after the 18th....
