Yes, we had a tree go down. Luckily, it just missed hitting our garage with our car inside. The only thing it took out is a little of the gutter.

Lots of damage in North New Jersey! Luckily my family "weathered" the storm with minimal damage. Only one "casualty"- one of my daughter's fishies did not survive 24 hrs without filtration... We did not have power, phone or TV for slightly over 24 hrs. The power is still slightly unpredictable and "dissapears" for 5-30 minutes every few hours. Few of my coworkers were not as lucky... one lost 2 cars, few have severe water damage to their homes. I worked both Saturday and Sunday. For about 6 hours on Sunday, from 8am to 2 pm, our Hospital became and island! No one could get in or out! All approaches were cut off by either water or blocked by downed trees. One pt was brought in by Fire Dept truck!!! It was the only vehicle with clearance high enough to make it thru the rising water! And they got her in just intime!!! her daughter arrived within 5 minutes after she got to our unit!!! LOL, she did not name her Irene though.... Storm was not considered a possible name either... Today was much better...though the water is still rising in some areas...

We have no damage, but lost all the food in the fridge/freezer over the weekend. NOt too bad -- the chest freezer in the basement is still frozen. My mom has a freezer, so we've been moving stuff over there -- we won't get power/phone/internet back until "deep into the weekend" according to the power company.
NO real damage other than the food loss -- some branches down, a screen blew out of the window -- really mild compared to some places where the flooding destroyed houses *shudder* I can't imagine losing everything like that. We at least have our house, hot water, and a grill -- we're pretty well set.

Oh, and whoever started calling her Whoricane Irene on FB is a genius. I love it. Matty's joke about Snookie/Irene on Twitter was pretty good too

Sorry you have no power, that must suck! A cell tower is damaged by my house, which is causing problems for me as I have no land line. My cell service is spotty at best. But I have to count my blessing, because if the tree had fallen a couple of inches over it would have taken out my garage with my car in it.
for anyone who didn't see Matt's post here it is :
MatthewBongiovi : All is fine for us. What does snookie and hurricane Irene have in common? They both blew the jersey shore to get on TV. Love that joke.

Sorry that you guys have no power yet, but glad you're all safe and sound! ;D I kept an eye on Irene, 'cause I have friends in Maryland and NYC, but they are all OK, too. No damage at all...
And LOL at Matt's joke!

We got our power back last night. We also were extremely fortunate. Being able to watch the news, seeing all the damage from floods and the harsh winds -- a few days of no lights is a small price to pay for having our home and family intact. My heart breaks for those folks who have lost loved ones, or who still can't find their loved ones now that the storm has passed.
