So Hucaine Lee really kick our butts, in the southern tier of New York. Did you hear on the news about Binghamton NY? Well, my home is near there and we got hit hard. Most of the places around here got flooded, so much devastation! Piles of damage stuff, line the streets. We got off far luckier then most. Before we went to bed our basement was already starting to flood. I woke up at 2:00am and went down to check the basement, a inch was forming at that time. I woke my husband and we took everything out of the basement. Our basement is finished so there was a lot of stuff we saved. The carpet down there is toast. But all and all we got lucky as we only got 3 inches in our basement. We found out it will cost us $800 dollars to recarpet the basement. We found some indoor/outdoor carpet that looks like berber carpet. All the different carpet people told us that is the best thing for the basement as it is made to get wet. Some of the people on my street were not so lucky. next door they lost their furance and their water heater. Most people got 3 feet of water not three inches. Amazing what water can do. We were were without power and water for three days, some people are still going without. I'm very happy that we are all safe, stuff can be replaced, people can't.

So glad you're doing all right and didn't lose anything but the carpet. You're right, things can be replaced, people can't.
Hopefully you'll start to dry out soon...

Ugh; water damage is no fun -- we had that quite a bit growing up -- every time it rained, we got 1-2" of water in the basement. We grew up putting things on blocks. Glad to hear your family is safe, and gladder still that the damage wasn't too severe for you. Mother Nature sure does know how to throw a bitch-fit, doesn't she?

Most of the clean up is done. Waiting for the basement to dry so they can install the new carpet. Start my new job tomorrow, so I guess things are starting to get back to normal.
