Well, I always thought we all have it in us, but today my fellow human being disabuse me.
I was on my way back from college with the tram. Across from me sat a young man or maybe better teenager, I would say maybe 17. Already when I sat down I realized he was pale and sweating and I thought it's because it's so warm today and we don't have AC in the tram. Suddenly he just fainted and fell off the seat. I jumped up and tried to wake him up again, but he wasn't reacting, so I knocked at the door of the driver (luckily we were sitting directly behind him) and told him to call an ambulance. He looked down at the boy and did it immediately. At the next stop he told the passengers that we have to wait now for an ambulance, so it will come to a delay. And all of a sudden I could hear cursing and mumbling, couldn't that guy collapse somewhere else, now they would be late, that sucks, stupid kid...well, you get the pic! And most of the people in the tram were older people, who didn't need to be at their job or at college or school in time. Meanwhile I checked for the pulse and realzised that he was wearing a bracelet which said that he has diabetes ...the driver called the ER again to tell them to hurry because the boy was probably in a sugar rush (do you say it like that) and while he and I made sure that guy was "ok" the rest of the passengers were angry and mad. There were about 50/60 people in the tram and no one reacted!!! I was close to tell them that they all just incured a penalty because non-assistance of a person in danger, but somehow I think they wouldn't even listen...
The ambulance arrived about five minutes later and carried him out of the tram and the driver continued his drive. Unbelievable!!
