Anyone know anything about iPods? I got my new computer, set up my iTunes again, plugged in my iPod....and all of the songs previously stored on it have disappeared! Is there a way to get them back or do I have to put all my CDs on it all over again....and what about the stuff I paid for from iTunes?
Grrrr....I thought technology was supposed to make our lives easier!

Hi Liz, There is a way to do it, but it isn't simple. I was listening to a radio show & they were complaining about it & a few people rang in telling them how to do it. Sorry I can't give you the web page that they said the instructions are on, maybe someone else here will have it??

IF your old computer is still working, can you have them both on your router at the same time? This makes them two machines on the same network, and you can copy files from one comp to the other.
Go to your iTunes music folder on the new computer.
Delete the new iTunes music folder and copy the iTunes music folder from the old comp to this one.
Make sure you copy your old iTunes music folder to the exact place that the new iTunes music folder was.
Open iTunes and you will now see your old library.
I had to do this when I got a new computer. Good Luck!

Ummm...yes my old comp still works....but how to I add it to my router? What is my router? I have a modem, but I don't see anyway to add anything to it. Is there maybe a way that I can save the file to a disc, then transfer it to the new one?

Basically, if both your computers are hooked up together, and can both have internet at the same time, they're on the same "network". This site has a few options: ipod.about.com/od/howtos/a/transfer_itunes.htmBasically, if your library is big, the best bet is to try to do the direct copy from one machine to the other. Otherwise, you have to either back up your entire iTunes library to disc and re-install, or just back up your purchased songs and re-load the rest from your own CDs. Sorry it's not easier

Now, I'm scared to get a new computer.
For what ever reason my itunes crashed about a year ago and I had to re-load all my cd's to my computer. It took me days. I'm not willing to do it ever again.
Liz, did it work?

Well, I have no way to hook the two of them together, so I'm going to try to back up the old file and reinstall it. If I had known, I would have had the computer store move it over, but I figured since it was on the iPod, it would automatically sync to the new computer. Since the store charges by the hour to move files, I tried to keep it as simple as possible. *sigh* Guess I have a job ahead of me this weekend.
