Thank you everyone. It's been quite a day here. It's nice to know that someone remembered....my mother forgot (yes I'm serious). She thought it was tomorrow. Then to top it all off we had a major storm here - 5 inches of rain (12.5 cm) in about 20 minutes and hail. A big chunk of our town got flooded including my parents house. I've spent the last 5 hours over there trying to deal with freezer food, wet laundry, etc. The hydro was also out. The storm drains couldn't handle the downpour and the whole system around town backed up. The fire dept. was out pumping water all over, including my parents house. They still don't have any hydro because the fire dept shut it off until the insurance adjuster looks at it and it's determined that it's safe to turn back on. This is the second time in two years that this has happened. My parents are 81 and 79, so you know who's got to look after everything, cleaning wise. My brothers are both several hours away. Thank goodness we have really great neighbours who are helping. I think I need a drink!

Happy Belated Birthday Liz! Sorry I didn't see this yesterday. What a mess with the rain! That must have been the same storm system that left a lake in my front yard for two days. *G* The situation with your parents - BTDT. I took care of mine from the time my mom had a major stroke in 1989, my dad was already in a wheelchair from a car accident in '62. We kept them in their own house a few years, then an apartment, Dad passed in '99 and a couple of years after that mom went to assisted living and eventually with mini strokes to a nursing home for the last couple of years until her passing last spring. Luckily I have two sisters to help me, but I know what a HUGE drain it can be in terms of time and energy, both physical and emotional. I hope you get to take some time for yourself and celebrate your birthday!
